Preventative Maintenance Programs
Preventative Maintenance has become an industry unto itself in recent years. It has also come to encompass not only preventative maintenance on machinery, but in management, key personnel and paperwork as well and is also known as Best Management Practices, or BMPs.
For machinery, a variety of options are available from calibrations, vibration analysis, visual inspection, infrared testing, etc. to keep costly key motors and machinery working at optimal levels. In addition, new advances in manufacturing have made available motors that operate at differing levels (i.e. adjustable Hertz, or variable frequency) that may initially cost more, but can save enough in power consumption that they are gaining market share. ESI offers these motors and equipment (sales and service) to the utility industry.
Management and maintenance practices can also be evaluated. Questions such as, “Are our methods and schedules adequate?” can be answered. There are occasions that the existing practices were excessive, however, normally they are found to be lacking adequate rapidity. Finding a solution that fits in the budget and still offers proper care for equipment can be elusive however. Privatization of such procedures is gaining momentum in some arenas as a cost saving measure.
