The main goal of ESI is to make the preconstruction and construction processes move smoothly.   This will also assist the contractor payment process to move as simple and uneventful as possible.    This process, while intellectually simple, requires more diligence, as well as specific but simple planning.

From small procedures, (i.e. requiring that any components or procedures not that are specified be pointed out in any and all submittals) to larger tasks such as Plan Review (link), change orders have not only been avoided, projects have been completed on time and in budget.   These processes eliminate confusion (who is responsible for what) and demands everyone work together to get the job completed and finished correctly.

Preconstruction meetings are vital, but are normally more productive when everyone involved in the project are onsite, including engineers, project managers, owners, inspectors, contractors and subcontractors as well as manufacturer reps. Review of the plans and specifications as well as prepared questions before the meeting keep things moving in the right direction without costly delays.   Solutions to questions are often provided following this format, before the meeting adjourns so no time is lost.   Settings such as described above have not only been very successful, but have been very well received by owners and contractors alike. During this meeting a complete contact list is created and provided to everyone.   This meeting is followed by a site meeting where all aspects of the work process are discussed.
